| QUICK FACT: Fort Croghan, in Burnet, was the 3rd of the 1st four forts established by the U.S. government to protect settlers against hostile Indians on the Texas frontier. In 1853, Fort Croghan was home to Company C, 8th infantry, U.S. mounted troop, and later became the headquarters for the 2nd Calvary Regiment. |
