BURNET – In spring 2006
during a meeting of Burnet County Commissioners’
Court, Alan Warren of Alan Warren Outdoors television
show, asked the court to approve matching funds from
the county’s Hotel Occupancy Tax to sponsor
episodes in Burnet County that showcase local hunting
and fishing opportunities. Commissioners’ Court
approved the spending, and the process of putting
together sponsors and show topics began.
As is often the case with television
productions, a lot of time and effort went in to filming
two episodes that will premiere beginning February
18, 2008 and continue through May 1, 2008. Both shows
will feature fishing on Lake Buchanan with Warren,
and local fishing guide Ken Milam, who also sponsored
the programming.
As local residents can imagine,
Warren and his film crew had a challenging experience
scheduling the production shoots because weather and
lake conditions have been varied and extreme since
the funding was approved in 2006.
However, Warren and Milam, both
determined to showcase the generally magnificent fishing
conditions on Lake Buchanan, got the footage needed
to produce the programs. Their efforts couldn’t
come at a better time as a new year begins, and efforts
continue to encourage visitors to come enjoy fishing
on the Highland Lakes, and all the outdoor activities
that abound in Burnet County throughout the year.
Episodes will air multiple times,
(Wednesdays 7:30am, Thursdays 3:30am, and Fridays
1:30pm – Eastern Standard Time), on the Versus
Network digital cable channel 352; DIRECTV/Austin
channel 603 and HD 604; and DISH/Austin channel 151
and HD 9468. Versus is an all sports network with
affiliates throughout the U.S.
The Sportsman Channel, a national
network dedicated exclusively to hunting and fishing,
will also air the programs but is currently not a
locally available network. The Sportsman Channel airs
in 48 states, over 2,300 cities and reaches 14,821,308
households according to their website.

Burnet County Judge Donna Klaeger,
who was the county’s treasurer at the time,
and instrumental in promoting this project adds, “I
encourage everyone to tune in even if you are not
a fishing enthusiast. The overall hope for this project
is to impact our tourism industry by showcasing our
county’s wonderful natural resources on a nationally
syndicated program, and Alan’s passions for
hunting and fishing are infectious. The shows are
sure to be entertaining for everyone.”
