Burnet County Lights Up For The Holidays!
For the first time in its 69 year history, Burnet County Courthouse will be dressed in thousands of twinkling white lights for the holiday season, joining a larger tradition of lighted trails and special events that Burnet County traditionally celebrates during the holiday season.
Built of Texas Pink granite from our local Granite Mountain in 1937, (the same granite quarried to build the State Capitol), the Burnet County Courthouse will be lit up on Thursday, November 16, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. The public is welcome to join us on the courthouse lawn for an opening night celebration, and the lights will continue to shine from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m every evening through December 31st for all to enjoy. Burnet County Courthouse is located on the Historic Square in the City of Burnet.
The City of Burnet will feature a celebration of the "Christmas Tree" with a series of decorated trees placed from the Burnet Train Depot, home of the Hill Country Flyer, through the Historic Square to Hamilton Creek Park and River Walk. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll from the depot and down Jackson Street, which will be lit overhead to Burnet's Historic Square. The vintage style light poles along Jackson Street and around the newly renovated square will also be decorated with lighted wreaths. At the Historic Square, the Chamber of Commerce will have a lighted tree in the World's Smallest City Park. After a visit to the many decorated businesses on the square, visitors can continue two blocks to Hamilton Creek Park and Creek Walk which will feature more lighted trees and the creek itself will be set in lights. For more information on these events please contact the Burnet Chamber of Commerce at (512) 756-4297 or click to www.burnetchamber.org. |
Just south down the road from Burnet on Hwy 281 is home the Walkway of Lights at Lakeside Park in Marble Falls. It will be open to the public from November 17, 2006 through January 1, 2007. More than two million lights adorn the unique holiday sculptures, live Christmas trees and archways. This holiday wonderland, now in its 16th year, is a popular attraction for families and friends from all over the world. Pictures with Santa can be taken on Thursdays 6:00pm - 8:00pm and Friday & Saturday evenings from 6:00pm - 10:00pm. Approximately 70,000 guests view the thirty-five lighted scenes each year. Hundreds of thousands of visitors from around Texas, the United States, and the world have already visited Burnet County in past years because of the variety of conveniently located lighted trails that offer a unique way of celebrating the holidays. Come see for yourself, and begin your own family holiday tradition. Best of all, all these lighted trails are free to the public, however, donations are greatly appreciated.
