The Highland Lakes Master
Gardener Association and Texas AgriLIFE Extension Service
are proud to announce that the Tenth Annual Hill Country
Lawn and Garden Show will be held on Saturday, March
22, 2008 at the Burnet Community Center, 401 E. Jackson
Street in downtown Burnet. The show will be open from
9:30am until 4:00pm.
The Highland Lakes Master
Gardeners are excited to present this free show as a
public service to the residents and visitors of the
Hill Country. This year’s show will feature more
than 25 exhibitors of garden related items. The Highland
Lakes Master Naturalists will be there with many wonderful
books and information and the Native Plant Society will
be offering an exciting array of native plants. There
will be exhibitors from the surrounding Hill Country
area offering plants, herbs, trees, veggies and garden
equipment as well as other garden related items of interest.
A booth especially for children will be included in
this year’s show. There will be demonstrations
presented throughout the day. In addition to the exhibitors,
the show will also feature three exciting free seminars.
At 10:00 am, Patty Leander,
a noted vegetable grower who contributes monthly articles
on vegetable gardening to the Travis County Master Gardener
newsletter and to Texas Gardener magazine, will speak
on “Backyard Bounty”.
At 11:30 am, Maggie Ross
McNeely, garden columnist and feature writer for the
Fort Worth Star Telegram, will be presenting a program
entitled “The Classical Art of Garden Design”.
Following her presentation, she will be signing copies
of her book, Classical Connections in My Year-Round
Garden.
At 1:00 pm, Trisha Shirey,
Director of Flora and Fauna at Lake Austin Resort and
Spa, will talk on “Deer Gardening”. Trisha
shares tips and techniques with gardeners on the PBS
program “Central Texas Gardener”, produced
by KLRU Austin and as guest host of the popular “Gardening
Naturally” radio show on KLBJ-AM, she assists
Austin area gardeners with a variety of garden problems.
